Claims Tips for Travellers

When travelling, I always hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I know it sounds cliché, but it never hurts.
Hopefully you never have to use these tips for claims processing. But in the unfortunate event you do, they’ll help you make sure the claim’s dealt with quicker.

Travel Insurance Claims Tips

Take some time to review the process.

It’s your travel insurance assistance provider’s job to process your claim quickly. But often when people aren’t familiar with the process, claims get delayed. Avoid this frustration and make sure you know the ins-and-outs of filing a claim!

Don’t delay!

Contact your travel insurance assistance provider, or open a claim online as soon as possible. Remember to complete and return the original forms for review as your assistance provider can’t begin processing the claim until they get them.

Keep things organized!

It’s important to return the forms with all of your original bills. Government plans require original signatures and original bills, so you should print and mail your completed forms back as soon as possible.

Sign, sign, sign!

When you do send back your forms, remember to fill in all the information, including signatures where indicated. Often people forget to:

  • Sign the Medical Authority section of the claim
  • Sign the Assignment of Payment section for any extended health plans
  • Provide details and information on any extended health plans
  • Complete the provincial health form required by the government

Your assistance provider will gather missing information over the phone if possible. But if a signature is needed, the form must be sent back to you.
I hope these tips help you travel confidently. Have your own tips? Leave us a comment we’d love to hear from you!
Happy travels,
Sarah
