At TuGo, we take pride in supporting important causes through various social responsibility initiatives. Last year, we embarked on an initiative called Employee Volunteer Week, and we had a great time giving back to our local communities!
This year, we dedicated an entire month to volunteering, which gave our team more opportunities to contribute to local causes near our offices in Richmond, Mississauga and Montreal. Here’s a glimpse of our Employee Volunteer Month initiatives across the country.
Clean-Up and Invasive Plant Removal at Richmond Parks
For our first volunteer session, we headed to Garry Point in Steveston and Terra Nova Park on a mission to keep Richmond clean and green.
A few of our TuGo employees teamed up on a cold, windy day to keep both parks litter free. At Terra Nova, not only did we clean the park, we helped protect and preserve native species by removing invasive blackberry plants. Overall, the teams had a very productive volunteer session, and it felt great to contribute to the beauty of both parks!
Richmond Food Bank
Richmond Food Bank provides food assistance, advocacy and related support to Richmond residents in need. We’re proud to give our time and support to this caring organization year after year!
Leading up to Thanksgiving, our volunteers helped clean, organize, sort and repackage donated food in the warehouse to help the Richmond Food Bank prepare for their weekly distributions.
Mississauga Food Bank
The TuGo team in Mississauga banded together to lend a helping hand at the Mississauga Food Bank.
We teamed up with SEVA to help prepare food in their warehouse, and we’re proud to have made a small contribution to this amazing organization. SEVA distributes over 2 million meals across the city to people in need, and our volunteers had a blast helping out!
Old Brewery Mission Montreal
Volunteering at Old Brewery Mission is always rewarding. The organization designs sustainable solutions to end homelessness. On top of that, their soup kitchen (one of the first in Canada) provides over 2,600,000 meals to the homeless in Montreal every year.
TuGo’s Montreal Customer Service team spent their time in the kitchen preparing nourishing meals for the homeless men and women visiting Old Brewery Mission for the much needed support.
Pumpkin Carving at Richmond Nature Park
This year, we introduced a new initiative to our volunteer program. A few of our Richmond employees carved pumpkins at the Richmond Nature Park to help prepare for their annual event, ‘Wild Things’. Every year, the Pond Trail at the park is decorated with hundreds of jack-o-lanterns to create a Halloween themed nature park for children of all ages to enjoy!
The carving event was truly ‘spooktacular’, and we had a scary good time tackling the giant pile of pumpkins. Not only did this volunteer opportunity help us work together while having fun as a team; it also induced a child-like enthusiasm in every one of us just before Halloween!
Some volunteers stopped by the Wild Things event to see the children’s reactions, and we were pleasantly surprised. Wild Things was lit up by more than 450 pumpkins (most of them carved by TuGo), and the Richmond Nature Park received more than 1500 visitors over the weekend!
Social Responsibility at TuGo
This year, over 120 employees participated in our Employee Volunteer Month. With the extension of our initiatives from a week to a month, our goal is to continue finding creative ways to give back and support important causes in our local communities.
For now, we’re looking forward to our favourite annual holiday tradition at TuGo – creating and decorating gift hampers for families in need!
