If you don’t have your Halloween costume ready yet, it’s time to get crackin’. All Hallows’ Eve is upon us, and I’m here to share how we Canadians celebrate. Here are top three must-go-to’s that are terrifying kids and adults around the country.
Fright Nights – Vancouver, BC
Playland at the PNE is an annual favourite for its variety of haunted houses and Halloween shows. Six haunted houses currently call Playland home, and they play on every kind of fear. Popular ones include Car-n-Evil, Asylum, and Hollywood Horrors. This year, Fright Nights features The Monsters of Schlock, the world’s craziest woman comedy/stunt show, reminiscent of Vaudeville and the Three Stooges.
Beware: Creepy Halloween folk (zombies, mummies, clowns, you get the picture) walk around the park and get a kick out of spooking you!
Dates: October 11-November 2, 2013
Admission: $25-70, depending on your pass and the time of day. The Fast Pass offers an expedited line for each haunted house.
Railway Ghosts at Exporail – Montérégie – Montreal, QC
If you’re a fan of ghost trains, then this Halloween event is for you! Visit the Canadian Railway Museum and revel in the spookiness of being stuck in a haunted train station. If you’re going with young children, you can keep them occupied making Halloween masks at the arts and crafts workshop.
Dates: October 19 to 31, 2013
Admission: $16.50
Toronto’s Haunted Walk – Toronto, ON
Meander through Toronto’s streets at night and learn about the city’s dark history. Haunted theatres, public hangings, and the ghostly encounters at Mackenzie House will make you see the city in a whole new light. Check the website to choose from the variety of walks they offer.
Dates: Walks are going on til November 2. Book in advance!
Admission: $18.75 for adults, $16.75 for students, and $9.75 for children
If that’s not enough reason to celebrate Halloween, I don’t know what is! Hopefully you get a chance to visit at least one of these Halloween must-go-to’s this year!
Happy Halloween!
