Venice has a wealth of history and culture for you to explore. Get lost in this one-of-one city of canals, bridges, and Venetian charm. Brimming with beautiful architecture, you won’t run out of wonders to behold. Here are just a few to get you started.

The Rialto Bridge, or the Ponte di Rialto, is the very first bridge to be built on the Grand Canal and is an iconic landmark of Venice. Take a walk along its bustling, white steps for a great view of the gondolas bobbing along the canal and a city so full of life. Surrounded by colourful buildings with a refreshing breeze over the water, there’s nothing quite like it.

No trip to Venice is complete without a visit to one of the many ornate churches peppered throughout the city. One of the most breathtaking of the bunch is the Basilica di San Marco. With its ornate façade and equally as detailed interior, this stop will have you craning your neck to see as much as possible.

Located near the Basilica di San Marco is one of Venice’s best museums, the Palazzo Ducale. What better way to learn about Venice’s history than a museum! Formerly the residence of the Doge, a.k.a. the duke of Venice, there are multiple guided tours,  including tours of the armory and prisons, the courtyard, and even the Doge’s apartment.

Buon Appetito!

When I think of a trip to Italy, my mind goes straight to all the delicious things I could eat. So, it’s no surprise that a trip to Venice is this food-lover’s dream. With its seaside destination, get ready for some mouthwatering seafood among many other incredible bites.

With an outdoor patio blooming with greenery, Al Nono Risorto gives you all the feels when looking for an intimate and warm evening—plus some delectable eats, of course. Indulge with a bowl of zuppa di cozze, cozy yet refreshing mussel soup with tomato served with crusty bread to soak it all up, and a glass of house wine to round out the meal.

Don’t jump to conclusions, this small restaurant is serving up big flavours for every course. Their pastas are all heavy hitters—order the spaghetti alle vongole, spaghetti with clams, for a classic oceanic dish or the ravioli burro salvia, ravioli with sage butter, for something a little richer. Don’t skip dessert! The tiramisu at Trattoria Il Vagone is touted as some of the absolute best in Venice.

This one is for all the meat-lovers out there. Stop into La Prosciutteria Venezia’s exposed brick interior for cured meats galore. From toasty sandwiches on schiacciata bread to bountiful taglieri, grazing boards made up of cured meats, a variety of cheeses, juicy fruits, and more, what’s not to love? Wash it all down with a crisp Aperol spritz and you’re good to go!

Explore!

Fill out your Venetian itinerary with unique experiences that will have you coming back time and time again. There are seemingly endless things to get up to in this marvelous city so here’s just a sample of what Venice has to offer.

Just a quick boat ride away from Venice is the historic island of Murano. Known for its masterful glassblowing art, this stop will leave you inspired. Stop into one of the many glassblowing shops for a live demonstration with this colourful, eye-catching medium. From jewelry to kitchenware to sculptures, you can certainly fit in some retail therapy here.

Speaking of retail therapy, Venice is teeming with world-class fashion. Pop into the many boutiques for high fashion and meticulous craftsmanship. A personal favourite are the handmade gondola shoes you can find in various shops that come in seemingly endless colours and a variety of fabrics.

Hop onto a gondola for a quintessentially Venetian experience. Perfect for a romantic trip with that special someone, you’ll drift along the canals in style. Captained by the experienced gondoliers, these little boats will make your trip feel like a movie.

If you ever find yourself in Venice, I hope you love it as much as I do. From life-changing eats to a deep dive into the city’s history, there’s no place that compares. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or the tenth, Venice will be sure to surprise you.

Ciao,
Jacqueline
