Family Day Fun on a Budget for 2026

After the first few weeks of 2026 filled with endless New Year’s resolutions and annual decluttering rituals, Family Day is the perfect opportunity to take a step back and spend some quality time with loved ones. By February 16th, your wallet may still be recovering from all the holiday fun of December—I know mine is. So for the February long weekend, plans should ideally be both exciting and affordable. If this sounds up your alley, look no further. We’ve put together a list of budget-friendly activities for the whole family to enjoy!

Cypress Mountain – BC

Have a snowy adventure on Cypress Mountain, just a 40-minute drive outside of Vancouver! For the holiday, you can find family-focused activities and entertainment on the hill. Spend the day in the Nordic Area, where you can go tubing or sledding starting at just $16 a person. Then warm yourself up in the afternoon with a hot cup of cocoa. If you stay late enough, you can even gaze up at a beautiful fireworks show to end your wonderful day. What could be better?!

Hockey Hall of Fame – ON

This one’s for the sports-loving families out there. Located in the heart of Toronto, the Hockey Hall of Fame is a great spot to visit this Family Day. Learn the history of this oh-so-Canadian sport and the people that made it great. On Family Day, kids get free admission, sweet treats, and collectible memorabilia, so it will certainly be worth the trip. To top it off, they can even catch a glimpse of the Stanley Cup itself!

Sport Calgary Winter Festival – AB

Located at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Sport Calgary is throwing a public skating event with family-friendly activities this Family Day. With opportunities to try new winter sports, learn some new tips and tricks on the ice, and a chilly yet fun-filled experience, a visit to this state-of-the-art rink is sure to earn some Family Day smiles!

Vancouver Maritime Museum – BC

Located right by Kitsilano Beach, the Vancouver Maritime Museum offers a fun-filled, educational experience for those of all ages. With interactive exhibits, immersive storytelling, and even live music, a trip to the museum won’t disappoint. On Family Day, entry is also completely free (but donations are welcome), making this an amazing option if you don’t want to break the bank but are looking to learn something new.

The Dome – BC

Just around the corner from the Vancouver Maritime Museum lies The Dome, an immersive 360-degree theatre. Throughout the Family Day weekend, it’ll feature three different shows for you to choose from: Blue Whales: Return of the Giants with Andy SerkisPedro Pascal: Encounters in the Milky Way, and Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon – 50th Anniversary. Each showing has their own unique flair so your whole family will surely enjoy.

FROST Regina – SK

FROST Regina is a city-wide, annual celebration of winter and all its wonders. It conveniently overlaps with Family Day, happening over the course of three jam-packed weekends. Head to Mosaic Stadium for delicious eats and giant inflatable bounce-courses or instead, make your way to Downtown Regina for ice skating with free skate rentals, and a live musical.

Royal Ontario Museum – ON

Blend learning with fun at the Royal Ontario Museum this Family Day. With immersive exhibits such as Egypt in the Galleries of Africa and the Dawn of Life, you’re sure to see things you’ve never seen before. With activities that are great for anyone no matter their age, like the Dino Hike which is free with admission, you and your loved ones can live out your Night at the Museum dreams.

Wherever you find yourself on this Family Day, don’t let a tight budget stop you from making time for the loved ones in your life. From coast to coast, there’s much fun to be had this February long weekend.

Until next time,

Jacqueline
