Studying in Canada as an International Student
The Canadian government recommends that international students buy travel medical insurance before their arrival. Canada has an excellent healthcare system, but medical and dental costs can become expensive for non-residents. Travel insurance will help you avoid having to pay those medical expenses on your own!

What TuGo’s international student insurance is, and how it works

TuGo’s Student Insurance is designed for international students coming to Canada. It offers comprehensive options for coverage, including emergency medical treatment of sickness or injury, dental expenses, and prescription medications. It also gives you access to a 24/7 emergency assistance line.
Here are 8 benefits you’ll have when you choose TuGo’s Student Insurance:
1. Comprehensive care for you and your family
Our International Student Insurance policy provides both you and visiting family members with a wide range of coverage.
2. COVID-19 coverage
With this plan, the cost of health emergencies including COVID-19, will be covered for up to $2 million while you’re studying in Canada. But remember, this coverage doesn’t include mandatory COVID-19 tests (including any COVID-19 test taken to meet government requirements at the time), regardless of the outcome.
3. Coverage outside of Canada
If you’re taking a trip outside of Canada while you’re studying here, this plan can provide you with coverage. That means you’ll have coverage while you’re away on any side trips, as long as you’re not in your home country and most of your time is spent in Canada.
4. Multilingual customer service
At TuGo, we understand that language is one of the most significant barriers to accessing good healthcare. That’s why we offer multilingual customer service and medical translation services, so our customers can understand their situation in their first language.

5. Mental health coverage
Mental health is just as important as physical health, so if you need to seek treatment with a licensed mental health professional, due to a medical emergency, we’ve got you covered.
Mental and emotional disorders are covered up to the policy limit for in-patient services under the Emergency Medical Treatment benefit in the same way that any other medical emergency is covered.
Additionally, coverage is also provided for out-patient and other services under any other related benefits that could apply (including but not limited to ambulance services, prescription drugs, family transportation, repatriation, rehabilitation, other professional services), including the following professionals:
• Licensed psychiatrist
• Licensed psychologist
• Registered clinical counsellor
• Psychotherapist
• Registered nurse psychotherapist
6. Pre-existing medical condition coverage
Do you have a pre-existing medical condition? Don’t worry. We’ll provide you with coverage as long as your medical condition is stable within 90 days before your policy starts.
7. Follow-up care after a medical emergency
If you need to visit the doctor after emergency medical treatment, up to 5 follow-up visits will be covered as long as they take place within 14 days of your initial treatment.
8. Private tutorial services
If you’re hospitalized for 30 or more consecutive days, we don’t want you to fall behind. So, to help you catch up on your studies, TuGo’s Student Insurance can help you cover some of the costs of a private tutor.
These are just a few of the many benefits of our comprehensive Student Insurance for international students studying in Canada. Visit TuGo’s Student Insurance page for more information. We’re glad you’re choosing to study in Canada, and we want to make sure you have the coverage you need.
