5 Ski Destinations in Eastern Canada

You might already be familiar with Western Canada’s most iconic mountain ranges, like Alberta’s Canadian Rockies or British Columbia’s Coast Mountains, but there’s plenty of fresh snow to be found across the country too!

From Ontario to Prince Edward Island, we’ll be exploring 5 of Eastern Canada’s best ski destinations. Read on!

1. Mont Tremblant, Quebec

Mont Tremblant is nestled in Québec’s Laurentian Mountain Range and boasts a picturesque ski village to explore once you’re off the slopes.

Perfectly suited for beginners, this resort has a two-acre area to build up your confidence and eventually progresses into long, easy runs.

Despite its small size, this range has four unique slopes to explore, plus great terrain for snowboarders. For more adventurous skiers and snowboarders, Mont Tremblant’s south side is home to a 30-acre Adrenaline Park, complete with a half-pipe.

After a long day on the slopes, the village has plenty of options for après ski, dining and places to stay. It’s great for families and has a fun, friendly feel. Better yet, it’s also only 90 minutes away from Downtown Montréal.

2. Blue Mountain Resort, Ontario

For skiers in southern Ontario, Blue Mountain Resort is a go-to destination! Situated northwest of the town of Collingwood, this resort is the third busiest in Canada after Whistler in British Columbia and Mont Tremblant in Quebec. It’s one of the largest ski resorts in Ontario, with 42 different runs and ample downhill and cross-country terrain for all types of skiers.

Like many other ski resorts, a wide variety of accommodations can be found spread out along the base of the mountain or within the Blue Mountain Village. The resort’s convenient shuttle bus makes it easy to get around Blue Mountain, with several stops at its base lodges and high-speed chairlifts.

Rather visit in the summer? They’re open year-round! After the snow melts, this resort becomes a warm weather hub for you to golf, mountain bike, test your strength on a ropes course, rock climb, or zipline!

3. Marble Mountain, Newfoundland & Labrador

Marble Mountain is the highest mountain peak you can ski in Atlantic Canada and one of the most pristine! It’s located on the west coast of Newfoundland in the Long Range Mountains. Known to have some of the best skiing east of Alberta’s Rockies, averaging even more snowfall each year than the more popular Mont Tremblant in Quebec. Its diverse terrain makes it great for intermediate skiers with short lift lines to the summit to explore.

If you’re taking a break from your skis, you’ll enjoy a wide range of on-site amenities at the Marble Mountain resort and have access to a vast snowmobile or ATV trail network.

Finally, at the base of the mountain, you’ll find Steady Brook. This quaint little town is perfect for unplugging and unwinding after a long day on the slopes. With a population of just over 400 people, this progressive, eco-conscious town is sure to welcome you with open arms.

4. Poley Mountain, New Brunswick

Poley Mountain, a family-friendly mountain located between New Brunswick’s three major cities, Moncton, Saint John, and the province’s capital, Fredericton. The closest town to Poley Mountain is Sussex, New Brunswick, and it’s well known for its friendly people and warm hospitality.

The resort is nicely suited for families and beginners, with plenty of available instructors offering lessons all season long. However, more experienced skiers may want to skip this one. Compared to other ski destinations, this resort has plenty of easy beginner runs and a relatively low elevation.

Unlike other destinations, Poley Mountain doesn’t have a ski village at its base, but the town of Sussex is just 10 kilometres away! Take in the beauty of winter in one of the 9 local parks or attend one of this vibrant town’s year-round events.

5. Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park, Prince Edward Island

Named after PEI-born Paralympian Mark Arendz, this ski destination is smaller than the others, but still offers plenty of activities for all ages including x-country and alpine skiing, snowboarding, fat biking, tubing and snowshoeing. Located in Brookvale, PEI, this destination is the only alpine ski hill in the province.

Despite the park’s low elevation, its lush landscapes provide exciting, scenic trails for experienced downhill skiers with plenty of twists and turns. Beginners can also look forward to honing their skills on 6 different green runs located throughout the park!

As for accommodation, there won’t be any at the Provincial Ski Park itself but the province’s capital, Charlottetown, is a quick 15-minute drive away. In this friendly, historic city, you’ll have your choice of hotels, restaurants and local shops. Plus, while you’re in Charlottetown, make sure not to miss out on all things “Anne of Green Gables”!
