TuGo’s Year of Giving Back and Volunteering

As Giving Tuesday approaches, we at TuGo are reflecting on the last year and how we’ve been able to support local communities across Canada. It’s one of our core values, and we ensure all our employees understand its meaning to our organization. Giving Tuesday is a day dedicated to giving back in any way possible, recognizing that every contribution, big or small, can make a significant difference!

Here are some highlights of ways we gave back over the past year:

Easter Seals Canada: Our Social Responsibility Partner

In April, we announced our partnership with Easter Seals Canada, Canada’s largest local provider of programs, services, and development for the disability community. This collaboration involves our financial backing for Easter Seals programs and services, and encourages our employees to volunteer in their various initiatives across Canada.

During this past summer, some of our employees drove to the Easter Seals Camp Squamish to volunteer at their family camp weekend. They not only got soaked by a surprise water fight, but truly enjoyed meeting the staff who make the camp so special, and the families who benefit from camp.

In September, we took our volunteering efforts to new heights at the annual Easter Seals Drop Zone Challenge. This initiative called for daring individuals to rappel down towering structures across BC, to raise funds and spread awareness for people with disabilities across Canada. TuGo employees helped out with reception and getting participants to the drop zone safely, in three Lower Mainland locations.

Backpacks for YWCA

This August, our Richmond office came together to pack several backpacks with essential school supplies for kids from the YWCA Eyrie House. The Eyrie House is a women’s transition house in Metro Vancouver, providing a safe haven for families fleeing violence. Giving back and setting these kids up for success in the new school year was an honour!

Richmond Food Bank

Over the years, our dedicated employees have taken time away from their desks to assist at the Richmond Food Bank, close to our head office. With a growing number of Canadians relying on food banks, especially during these challenging times, helping to pack boxes and supplies for those facing food insecurity helped us provide community support where it was needed.

Wildfires in BC and Northwest Territories

The devastating impact of the wildfires in BC and Northwest Territories moved us deeply. We felt compelled to offer our assistance, so TuGo contributed $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to aid their relief efforts towards the wildfires.

Mike Starko Challenge

Several employees participated in this year’s second annual Mike Starko Challenge, through TuGo’s Employee Volunteer Program (EVP). The challenge celebrates the late Mike Starko’s philanthropic legacy by encouraging everyone to get active and fundraise, with all donations to Right to Play Canada.

TuGo’s Employee Volunteer Program

Our EVP supports employees with donation funds that go towards significant causes that individual employees participate in. It’s been great to see our employees have fun giving back to the community. Our goal is to continue finding creative ways to give back and support important causes in our local communities.
