Planning your next tropical vacation? Consider adding Jamaica to your list! The country ranks as a top travel destination, making it an excellent place for family vacations or holidays with friends.
Nestled in the Caribbean, the island of Jamaica is the ultimate vacation destination thanks to its lush rainforests, vibrant music scene, beautiful views and stunning beaches.
It’s the birthplace of Reggae Music and home to notable names like Bob Marley and Usain Bolt. Plus, travellers love exploring Jamaica’s verdant mountains and tasting delicious local cuisine like jerk chicken.
Jamaica has a tropical climate, so you can expect warm sunshine, high humidity and few short tropical rain showers in the summer. While there’s a risk of rain and storms during hurricane season, there’s plenty of heat and sunshine all year long.
These are just a few of the reasons to visit. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of my favourite places across the island.
Here are 4 must-see places in Jamaica:
1. The Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains are the highest mountain range on the island and have tons of activities from hiking to exploring different heritage sites. The mountains make an excellent day trip to give you time to roam the area.
In addition to producing Jamaica’s world-famous Blue Mountain Peak Coffee —with several coffee farms with tastings for you to try— these mountains also are home to several flowers and plants native to the region, some even with healing properties. Plus, you won’t want to miss this breathtaking view of the city of Kingston. It sometimes gets a bit chilly due to the elevation, so I’d grab a sweater in case.
There’s something for everyone- whether you’re a history buff, hiker, or coffee lover!
2. Frenchman’s Cove

Frenchman’s Cove, in Portland, Jamaica spans 42 acres of land. This beach’s soft white sand, surrounded by amazing greenery, is one to see!
Frenchman’s Cove connects to both the Caribbean Sea and with a calm, natural flowing river on the property—which is the best of both worlds. There are several restaurants and villas to enjoy on the properties as well, so if you’re looking for turquoise waters and a quiet place to relax and unwind, this is it!
3. Rafting on the Martha Brae River

The Martha Brae River is located in Falmouth, and is a popular attraction if you’re interested in rafting. The rafts are made of long bamboo logs brilliantly crafted by local skilled labourers and navigated by licensed raft captains. It is truly a peaceful experience, as you hear the birds chirping and the soothing rhythm of the water.
The river stretches 20 miles throughout the in-land rainforest; however, the tours are usually an hour long and cover around three miles of the river. There are also several picnic grounds and a swimming pool to spend time in at the starting point, known as “Rafter’s Village”. Often, tours can be booked through your hotel.
4. Floyd’s Pelican Bar
Floyd’s Pelican Bar is in Parottee Point, St. Elizabeth, and built in the middle of the ocean. The owner, Floyd, initially created the bar for his friends who were fishermen to stop by for a quick drink, but it quickly expanded as a local attraction.
There are numerous boats at the shore of Parottee Point to take you there. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by music and offered a drink from the bar. The vibe at the Pelican Bar is incomparable and is such a unique experience!
If you get a little hungry, there are plenty of made-to-order seafood options to grab a bite. While sitting at the bar, you may catch a glimpse of dolphins in the distance—nothing compares!
Lastly, don’t leave Pelican Bar without carving your name on the dock; it’s a fun tradition!
Those are a few great places to plan to visit on your next holiday to Jamaica. Speaking of planning—be sure to consider the best travel insurance for your Caribbean getaway be you leave. Have any questions or comments? Comment below.
