Top Dog-Friendly Hotels in North America

As much as we love to travel, the feeling of leaving your furry best friend at home with a sitter or at a doggy hotel doesn’t quite sit right. This year, why not kick your vacation up a notch and bring your pup with you? In case you haven’t heard, dog-friendly hotels do exist—and these accommodations go above and beyond to make sure your pup is treated even better than you are! If travelling with your pet sounds right up your alley, here’s a roundup of our favourite dog-friendly hotels across North America.

1. Mandarin Oriental, Boston

This 5-star hotel makes the top of our list, and for good reason: Mandarin Oriental Boston serves up two deluxe dog programs—“Classic” and “Pampered”. Both programs boast gourmet dog food menus, customizable amenities and “elite specialty dog services”.
At check-in, all dogs are greeted with a plush sleeping pillow, mineral water, a puppy place-setting, an in-room “Doggie Dining” menu and a special “doggie bag” delivery, which features homemade artisan biscuits, a dog-friendly map of Boston’s Back Bay and a note from Bonnie and Tara, the General Manager’s golden retrievers who serve as the hotel’s Ambassadors of Pet-Relations.
Your pup can even join you on the patio for French fare and oysters at Bar Boulud, the hotel’s upscale in-house restaurant. If that’s not enough to get your dog’s tail wagging, you can upgrade to the “Pampered Pup” package and get a private shopping consultation and fitting with a Fish & Bone canine concierge and a S“Paw” experience at Pawsh, where Fido can enjoy a “Padicure” or “Furry Facial”.

2. The Novotel Toronto Centre Hotel, Toronto

This hotel is perfectly situated in the core of downtown Toronto, and according to this Trivago Magazine article, the “hotel staff treat your pet like royalty. In fact, every dog receives a “Royal Canine” kit, which includes a Frisbee, treats, a leash, food and water bowls, and scoop bags.” Now, that’s pooch-perfect!

3. Loden Hotel, Vancouver

This upscale boutique hotel goes above and beyond for dogs. Afterall, the Loden is located in the heart of one of the dog-friendliest cities in the world—Vancouver, BC! As the website states, “the Loden welcomes your four-legged friends like a part of the family! Upon arrival, pets are greeted with their very own amenities, including a luxurious plush pet bed, food bowl and Loden leash.”
They also provide dog sitting services and a map upon request that will show guests where all the dog-friendly parks and trails are. There’s even a dog-friendly mini bar that includes squeaky toys and organic treats!

4. Havana Cabana, Key West, Florida

While many dog-friendly hotels only allow dogs in the lobby and in your room, Havana Cabana at Key West welcomes your pup in your room, the lobby, tiki hut, on the resort shuttle, and even at the pool bar! Upon check-in, your furry companion will receive a portable water bottle, dog biscut, floor mat, doggy bags, and a handy clip-on doggy bag dispenser – all the essentials for exploring the city and its beaches.

5. Executive Hotel Le Soleil, NYC

Located just a few blocks away from Central Park, the Executive Hotel Le Soleil is home to a great location and various dog services for Fido to enjoy. Furry comforts include courtesy bags for dog-walking, delicious gourmet dog treats, plush dog beds and mats, a concierge list of nearby pet-friendly restaurants, parks, groomers and pet boutiques, and even a door hanger to alert guests and staff that your dog is in the room.

6. Loews Coronado Bay Resort, San Diego

Loews Coronado Bay Resort allows two pets up to 40 lbs. As noted on the hotel’s pet policy, “special pet amenities include gourmet room service menus, pet walking services and a welcome gift at check-in, which includes a pet tag, bowl and treat.” The hotel boasts plenty of grassy areas for your best friend to cool off, and waste bags are available as well! Talk about a breezy vacation!

7. Lamb and Lion Inn, Cape Cod

Rated as the #1 pet friendly property in New England by Yankee magazine, this hotel offers more than just a pet-friendly room. Guests and their dogs can enjoy pet sheets, water bowls and towels. Additionally, the Lamb and Lion Inn is ideally located near dog-friendly restaurants, conservation trails, and a beautiful rocky beach—they even have recommended dog-friendly whale watching tours!

8. The Fairmont Empress, Victoria

Prepare your pup for royal treatment at the Empress. It’s no surprise that the dog-friendly amenities at the Fairmont Empress include the usual dog bed and dish, but they go one step further and offer a kennel, bottled water, doggie bags, a food mat, and dog treats as a part of turndown service. They also provide dog-walking maps upon request! Given the beautiful harbourside location of the Empress, this hotel is a great option for you and your pup!
With so many other amazing pet-friendly accommodations to explore, these hotels just scratch the surface. But before you pack up to leave with your pet, it’s always a good idea to make sure you’re covered for the return of your travelling pet, in case of an emergency.
